The 2024 GMC Acadia is Larger than Anticipated

White GMC Acadia SUV Water Rocks Trees

The 2024 GMC Acadia is larger than life. In fact, the SUV offers a more truck-like appearance compared to its predecessor; let’s take a look.

Inside the Acadia

The new Acadia has a more spacious interior than the previous model (2023 GMC Acadia). The center console has more storage space now, and the shift buttons have moved to a column-mounted shifter, which has freed up more room underneath the console.

Inside, there’s an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a 15.0-inch touchscreen, both of which are standard. The infotainment system is Google-based and includes customizable screens and available apps. The center display also has static HVAC controls with a mix of touch functions and toggle switches.

There is a wealth of safety features inside the Acadia, such as advanced driver-assistance technology, and most of it is now standard. The vehicle also features adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, detection systems for bicyclists and pedestrians, automated emergency braking that works at intersections, and up to nine exterior camera views. Furthermore, GMC’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist system is available on the Elevation and AT4 trims, a first for the Acadia.

The GMC the Acadia Practically Grew Overnight

The impending Acadia has grown by 10.6 inches overall, making it 204 inches long from stem to stern. Despite the increase in size, the mid-size SUV is still half a foot shorter than the full-size GMC Yukon. The Acadia’s wheelbase has also been stretched by 8.6 inches, resulting in a more spacious interior that can accommodate all passengers comfortably. The base-level Acadia Elevation trim has a second-row bench seat and can seat up to eight passengers, while the AT4 and Denali trims have captain’s chairs that limit seating to seven.

The new Acadia’s larger size not only provides more passenger space but also more cargo area. According to GMC, almost 80 percent more space behind the third row and approximately 36 percent more space with the rearmost seats stowed. Although the exact figures have yet to be released, it’s believed that the new generation will have around 23 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and about 56 cubic feet behind the second. Further, a large storage bin is underneath the load floor, and a spare tire is below that.

Powertrain

Previously, the Acadia was available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V-6 engine. The four-cylinder engine produced 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the V-6 engine generated 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. However, the new Acadia reveals a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is significantly more powerful, producing 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. GMC still needs to release fuel-economy estimates for the new powertrain.

The new Acadia has an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous nine-speed unit. The SUV is available in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations, and both options can tow up to 5000 pounds, which is an improvement of between 1000 and 1700 pounds compared to the previous model. The AT4 model, designed for off-road use, features an exclusive all-wheel-drive system with a twin-clutch rear axle.

The AT4 model of the new Acadia stands about an inch taller than other trims, which are already 3.4 inches taller than the previous generation. The AT4 also features unique hardware, including 18-inch wheels mounted on Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires and a specially tuned suspension. The ruggedly capable SUV reveals red front tow hooks, a lower front skid plate, and plastic over-fenders with orange reflectors at the top.

The Denali trim of the new Acadia is easily recognizable with its glossy black lower body trim and flashy grille, which is now satin instead of chrome. The SUV can also come equipped with big 22-inch wheels, an upgrade from the previous 20-inch option. The Acadia Denali features leather upholstery, laser-etched wood trim, chrome accents, and heated and ventilated front seats. The SUV has a standard 12-speaker Bose stereo, but a 16-speaker version is available. Moreover, the panoramic sunroof and second-row heated seats are also optional features.

Although GMC has yet to announce the pricing for the impending Acadia, the SUV may be available early next year (2024). The American automaker will likely reveal the pricing details closer to the launch date. However, based on previous pricing trends, it’s estimated that the base-level Elevation will start at just under $40,000, while the top-of-the-line Denali may cost over $50,000.
