During the 2023 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft confirmed that the 2024 GMC Acadia will have GM’s latest Global B electronic architecture, according to his discussions with engineers.

The new Global B architecture in the 2024 GMC Acadia will offer various benefits regarding the function and update of the vehicle’s electronics and software. It represents a significant upgrade for vehicles that use this architecture, including the 2024 GMC Acadia.

Compared to the previous types of electronic architecture used in GM vehicles, Global B significantly boosts processing power. This results in smoother operation for onboard technology and infotainment and enhanced communication between software systems within the SUV.

With the Global B architecture’s over-the-air (OTA) updating, visits to the dealership for software updates are now a thing of the past. For instance, OTA patches for the GM Super Cruise feature can add more road coverage as they become available.

While Global B and its OTA updates are mostly a positive feature for most users, some occasional hiccups still need ironing out. Some 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon pickups have experienced battery drainage due to failed OTA updates, which kept the infotainment systems running for hours while parked in a driveway or garage.

At the Detroit Auto Show, GM revealed the changes and updates made to the all-new third generation of the 2024 GMC Acadia. The next-gen Acadia has been stretched in dimensions, adding 10.6 inches in length and 3.2 inches in height. The interior can seat 7 or 8 passengers and features an 80 percent increase in cargo space.

The 2024 GMC Acadia is available in four trim levels: base Elevation, mid-range Elevation Premium, off-road-focused AT4, and range-topping Denali. All four trims have a standard 15-inch Premium GMC Infotainment System screen and an 11-inch Driver Information Center.

The 2024 GMC Acadia is powered by a turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine that produces 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque and is standard on all trims. The GM eight-speed automatic transmission handles cog swaps. All-wheel drive is optional on the Elevation, Elevation Premium, and Denali trim levels. Meanwhile, the off-road-capable AT4 comes with a unique Active Torque Control all-wheel drive system as standard.

The 2024 GMC Acadia will be manufactured at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant and launch early in 2024.
