The 2025 GMC Terrain: A Simpler Gear Shift and More Space
The 2025 GMC Terrain is changing things up, starting with a significant improvement—it ditches the confusing push-button shifter for a simpler column-mounted gear lever, making shifting gears a breeze. The new Terrain also looks more like the boxy, rugged trucks GMC is known for, which gives it a rugged, excellent appearance.
Inside, a vast 15.0-inch touchscreen acts like a super-smart control center. It has Google built-in to download apps, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy phone connections. There’s also a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot for internet on the go. The driver now gets a modern 11.0-inch digital display with customizable options. The 2025 model year is simplified, with the Elevation becoming the new base model, including heated seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, and adaptive cruise control.
For safety, the new Terrain adds tech to detect people walking or biking nearby and automatically brake when turning at intersections. It also helps steer if a car is in the driver’s blind spot. There’s even a rearview camera mirror and a fancy surround-view system with up to eight camera angles for more accessible parking.
While more rugged AT4 and luxury Denali trims are coming in 2026, the 2025 Terrain Elevation will launch with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that makes 175 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive version has an eight-speed automatic transmission and can tow up to 1,500 pounds. If fans prefer front-wheel-drive, it has a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and can tow up to 800 pounds.
The new Terrain is slightly bigger than the previous model, giving rear passengers extra space. It still has 30 cubic feet of cargo room for your gear. If you like off-roading, the AT4 has all-terrain tires, a protective skid plate, and a raised suspension to handle rough trails. The Denali trim offers more luxury, with bigger wheels and a smoother ride.
Although pricing isn’t confirmed yet, the 2025 AWD Elevation may start at around $35,000, with the AT4 and Denali models likely costing closer to $40,000 when they arrive in 2026.
