2024 GMC Canyon Receives New Sports Bar Package and Other Updates
The 2023 model year saw the introduction of the next-generation Canyon, and the 2024 model year brought additional updates for GMC’s midsize pickup truck. The new sports bar package is one of the most notable additions to the 2024 GMC Canyon.
This Sports Bar Package (RPO code PCK) will be available as a dealer-installed option (LPO). Although this package is not yet available and pricing details have not been disclosed, it will include the following components:
- Bed-mounted sports bar, LPO (SBY)
- 40-inch Off Road Roof Light Bar, LPO (S3X)
The Sports Bar Package requires the Power Distribution Box (RPO code VBP) and the Accessory Switch Kit, LPO (RPO code VZJ). This package is offered exclusively on the Elevation, AT4, and AT4X trim levels and is not compatible with the Denali and AT4X AEV Edition (RPO code XEV).
In other news regarding the GMC Canyon, the midsize truck experienced a notable increase in sales during the first quarter of 2024, with a 9.3-percent rise to 5,484 units. Besides the Canyon’s platform mate, the Chevy Colorado, the Nissan Frontier was the only midsize pickup to report a sales increase during the same period.
Under the hood, the 2024 Canyon features the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine as standard across all trim levels. This powerplant delivers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, paired with the second-generation GM eight-speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain configurations include 2WD as standard on the Elevation trim, while 4WD is standard on all other models and optionally available on the Elevation.
The Canyon is built on an updated version of the GMT 31XX platform, which it shares with the third-generation Chevy Colorado. Production of the 2024 Canyon takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
