The 2024 GMC Acadia Unveils the Latest Generation’s Appeal
The third-generation GMC Acadia debuted at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show in September, rolling down the red carpet for the 2024 model year. The latest iteration of the not-so-compact SUV showcases updated styling, expanded exterior dimensions, a more spacious cabin, and added tech features. Notably, the American automaker aims to broaden the appeal of the 2024 GMC Acadia.
Insights into the changes reveal that the all-new Acadia boasts longer, wider, and taller exterior dimensions. Compared to the preceding 2023 model year, the first installment of the third generation features an 8.4-inch longer wheelbase, a 10.6-inch longer overall length, and a 3.2-inch taller overall height.
These new dimensions bring the Acadia back to its full-size crossover roots, aligning with the size of the first generation. The GMC SUV would later downsize to a midsize model for its second generation. GMC’s Acadia Marketing Manager Katherine Weber was asked about surprising demographics related to the varying sizes across Acadia’s generations, mentioned that while nothing was unexpected, GM aims for the new third-generation 2024 GMC Acadia “to appeal to the female drivers,” stating that the goal is to attract a broader demographic to the Acadia.
Inspired by its twin cousin, the Acadia mirrors the new Chevy Traverse; female buyers historically favor the robust SUV. Yet, with the launch of the all-new 2024 model year revealing the new Z71 trim level, the Traverse is anticipated to appeal to more male buyers. As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Acadia comes equipped with the standard turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine. The four-cylinder mates with the GM eight-speed automatic transmission, and the GM C1 platform serves as the foundation for the Acadia, with production taking place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant.
