Buick’s Evolution Delivers a Future with Wildcat EV-Inspired Design

Buick is undergoing a significant transformation, marked by the introduction of a fresh design concept based on the Wildcat EV prototype. Unveiling a new tagline and brand campaign, “Exceptional by design,” Buick showcased the sleek gold Wildcat EV model as a representation of its evolving identity.
Buick Reveals Design Inspired by Wildcat EV
Buick has yet to debut its first electric vehicle in the United States, but the automaker is preparing for a new chapter. The process commenced with an updated tri-shield in June 2022, along with the unveiling of the striking Wildcat EV concept.
Buick’s latest design, announced on Tuesday (February 20, 2024), draws inspiration from the Wildcat EV prototype. The company envisions this distinctive “Exceptional by design” language permeating its entire lineup. Boasting to be the “fastest-growing mainstream brand in the industry in 2023,” over 70% of Buick’s sales originated from new clientele.
“By incorporating the Wildcat EV’s design elements into production models like the 2024 Encore GX and all-new Envista, we’ve found that superior design and refined luxury distinguish Buick from competitors. Exceptional by design.”
-Molly Peck, Chief Marketing Officer at Buick and GMC Global
Ethos pays homage to its heritage while embracing a forward-looking perspective. The upcoming 2024 Buick Envision and 2025 Enclave will be the initial recipients of this new design philosophy.
The company showcased the new tagline and design through a video presentation, which “celebrates the brand’s rich legacy while offering a glimpse into the future.” The video concludes with the elegant gold Wildcat EV making its appearance. The question arises: where are the electric vehicles?
While Buick has yet to introduce its inaugural electric vehicle in the US, the brand has been marketing electric cars in China since 2022.
Under GM’s joint venture SAIC-GM, Buick unveiled its first Ultium-based EV, the Electra E5, in November 2022. The Buick Electra E4 followed suit two months later. In the interim, Buick introduced the new Velite 6 last summer, with prices starting at $15,500 (112,800 yuan). Buick recently adjusted its pricing strategy, offering lower-priced Electra E4 and E5 models in China, commencing at $22,200 (159,900 yuan). The brand asserts that it has established a new “price-performance” benchmark in the mid-to-large electric SUV market, entering the $21,105 (150,000 yuan) price bracket. Buick’s Electra E5 now commences at $23,600 (169,900 yuan). Buick has filed trademarks for Electra, or “E” models one through nine, indicating its intention to introduce EVs across various segments. The exact timeline remains uncertain. Buick has committed to becoming fully electric by 2030.
However, nearly half of Buick dealerships in the US have opted for a buyout from General Motors instead of embracing electric vehicles. By opting out of the electric transition, GM has approximately 1,000 dealerships in the US. Buick stated that around 89% of the US population still resides within 25 miles of a dealership.
